Chi Square Economics is working with a national regulator that is looking for an experienced economist in the water sector to manage projects and teams. The team tackles a wide range of economic, financial, and policy issues in the above sector. They are now looking for a Principal Economist lead teams and advice clients on regulatory frameworks and commercial barriers.

If you are currently based in the UK and have experience in providing advice in the energy and water sector, this is an amazing opportunity to become a key team member in a well-known UK regulator.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage projects in economics, finance, and policy with a regulatory view
  • Work closely with the team, external consultants, and distributors to assess policy implications and provide economic analysis to government to make final regulatory decisions
  • Present to internal and external stakeholders on key policy areas and develop new proposals
  • Meet and explain new regulatory policies with other regulators and distributors
  • Manage teams of up to 5 economists, supporting them with on-going learning and career development opportunities
  • Support the wider team with recruitment

About you

To be eligible for this role, you must have:

  • Master’s in economics
  • Ideally prior experience working in a consultancy, government body or regulator
  • Extensive experience in the water sector
  • Experience working on regulatory policies
  • Ability to present and explain findings to external and internal stakeholders
  • A strong understanding of regulatory economics and public policy adaption and development
  • Prior experience managing a team
  • Strong writing and communication skills
