Head of Data Engineering

A well-established technology-driven business in the digital entertainment sector is looking to appoint a seasoned professional to lead its Data Engineering function. Operating at scale and driven by a culture of continuous improvement, the company is enhancing its analytics infrastructure to enable sharper insights and seamless user experiences.


In this leadership position, you’ll be responsible for shaping and evolving the organisation’s data engineering strategy. You’ll guide a team of skilled engineers, oversee technical delivery across multiple initiatives, and ensure the data ecosystem remains robust, efficient, and future-ready.

Ideal for someone who thrives in hands-on environments, the role blends technical depth with strategic oversight , working in close partnership with teams across analytics, data science, and software engineering.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead day-to-day data engineering operations, including project planning, sprint management, and incident reviews
  • Set technical direction and enforce high standards across the BI stack and engineering practices
  • Line manage a team of engineers, supporting both technical and career development
  • Own data quality, governance, architecture, and infrastructure improvements
  • Collaborate closely with data science, reporting, and broader tech teams on cross-functional initiatives
  • Drive improvements in scalability, cloud deployment, and system reliability

Requirements

  • Strong track record leading data engineering teams
  • Extensive hands-on experience in modern data engineering tools and environments, including:
  • Python, CI/CD platforms (e.g. GitHub, GitLab)
  • Cloud services (preferably GCP – BigQuery, Kubernetes, Firestore)
  • Infrastructure as code (Terraform), orchestration tools (Airflow, Luigi)
  • Messaging systems (Kafka, Pub/Sub), and NoSQL databases (MongoDB, Firestore)
  • Deep SQL experience with large datasets and complex data structures
  • Degree in a STEM or quantitative subject
  • Experience in the gaming or betting sector is a bonus
