A high-growth technology unit within the renewable energy sector is seeking a Data Engineer to join its expanding digital team based in Lisbon or London. This fast-paced group is responsible for building the systems and tools that enable smarter decision-making across trading, asset management, and operations within a global clean energy portfolio.

Working at the crossroads of energy, technology, and strategy, the team delivers real-world digital solutions that directly support the transition to a low-carbon economy. The ideal candidate will be excited by the challenge of building scalable, production-ready data infrastructure to support advanced analytics and energy market applications.

Role

The Data Engineer will contribute to the design and development of a robust data platform that underpins analytical modelling, operational insights, and market forecasting tools. The role involves working closely with data scientists, analysts, and engineers to ensure that data pipelines are reliable, maintainable, and optimised for performance.

Key Responsibilities

  • Drives the identification of new use cases where data science can add value, with a focus on automating or enhancing account-level decision-making (e.g. detecting bonus misuse or behavioural risk)
  • Leads the Data Science team, providing line management, facilitating agile ceremonies such as sprints and retrospectives, and promoting a culture of continuous improvement and high-quality delivery
  • Works closely with Data Engineering to support the robust deployment of models and ensure seamless integration with existing infrastructure and business operations
  • Remains technically hands-on, contributing to the development of predictive models for identifying behavioural patterns (e.g. compliance or trading risks), as well as building systems for content automation and personalisation

Key Skills

  • Brings proven experience leading data science teams within commercial, agile environments, with strong stakeholder engagement skills
  • Demonstrates a solid grasp of the full model lifecycle, from scoping and development through to deployment and ongoing optimisation
  • Well-versed in a range of machine learning techniques, including supervised (e.g. XGBoost, deep learning), unsupervised (e.g. clustering, PCA), and reinforcement learning methods
  • Possesses strong SQL skills (ideally with BigQuery) and proficiency in Python or R; experienced with NoSQL databases such as MongoDB or Firestore
  • Familiarity with modern data engineering, MLOps, and data visualisation tools is advantageous
