An established and growing UK-based consultancy is seeking a Senior or Principal Consultant to join its Strategy and Delivery practice. The organisation advises senior decision-makers across the public and private sectors on complex, place-based economic and strategic challenges, with a particular focus on local and regional growth, governance, and delivery transformation.
This role offers the opportunity to take a leading position on high-impact strategic projects, work closely with senior stakeholders, and play an active role in shaping both client outcomes and internal capability within a values-driven consultancy environment.
Role
The Senior / Principal Consultant will take a lead role in the design, management, and delivery of strategy and implementation projects across a range of economic and public-policy areas. Working closely with senior colleagues, the role combines hands-on project delivery with team leadership, client management, and contribution to business development. At Principal level, the role carries greater autonomy, responsibility for more complex assignments, and increased involvement in shaping client relationships and winning new work.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead end-to-end delivery of strategic and implementation projects, from scoping and approach design through to delivery and impact
- Manage senior client relationships, including regular engagement with public-sector and public-private stakeholders
- Translate complex policy, economic, and strategic issues into clear, actionable recommendations
- Oversee and contribute to high-quality written outputs, including reports, strategy documents, and presentations
- Interpret and interrogate socio-economic and place-based data to inform strategic insights
- Lead, coach, and develop junior consultants within project teams
- Support and lead proposal development, bids, and wider business-development activity
- Contribute to the development of internal best practice, tools, and ways of working
- Support wider business and operational/mangerial activities as required
- There will also some UK travel for client meetings
Key Skills
- Experience delivering strategy and/or transformation work within a consulting environment, particularly in local or regional government or public-private contexts
- Strong interest in public policy, local economies, and the UK place-based economic landscape
- Good understanding of the policy and delivery levers available to support economic growth, combining analytical insight with practical application
- Solid grasp of core consulting approaches to strategy development, transformation, and change management
- Proven ability to lead and deliver complex strategic projects across public-sector policy areas
- Experience working with socio-economic data, translating evidence into clear, actionable insights
- Confidence working with senior and complex public-sector stakeholders
- Ability to operate effectively in ambiguous, evolving, or politically sensitive environments
- Experience leading teams and managing projects end-to-end, from strategy through to delivery
- Involvement in proposal writing, bids, or wider business-development activity
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with experience producing high-quality client outputs
- Commitment to continuous professional development and effective self-leadership
- The role can be based in either the London or Manchester offices.
